Martinsville community celebrates grand opening of Five Points Neighborhood

Special financing is available to purchase new homes in the Five Points Neighborhood

Martinsville, Va. — The Five Points Neighborhood, a new community development minutes away from Uptown Martinsville, will celebrate its grand opening on May 10 at 11 a.m. on Emanuel Street in Martinsville.

Five Points is located at the five-way intersection in Martinsville of Fayette Street, Memorial Boulevard South, and West Church Street. Bringing a fresh look to the area, these cottage-style homes were designed with new construction technologies that cut down on materials and overall costs to pass those savings along to the homeowner. There are five completed homes on-site with three left available now for sale.

“The Five Points Housing Project helps address a critical housing need in our community,” said Leon Towarnicki, manager for the City of Martinsville. “The unique partnership behind this project creates an innovative approach to new housing construction, the concepts of which can be replicated in other communities. On behalf of the City, we’re excited to see the project take shape and look forward to welcoming new homeowners to the neighborhood.”

Additional homes will be built as completed homes are sold. The Harvest Foundation, a private foundation established in 2002 from the sale of Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, supports the Five Points Neighborhood project through an Affordable Housing Fund, which serves as a stop-gap if homes are on the market for an extended period of time.

DeWitt House, senior program officer at the foundation, said this project “is one of the strongest public-private partnerships our community has experienced in recent times. It taps into the core mission of the Harvest Foundation to create a thriving Martinsville-Henry County by increasing generational wealth, family stability, and helping individuals develop a sense of community. From the first conversation with Virginia Housing, you could sense their desire and willingness to invest in our community. They needed a group of partners with the same energy and enthusiasm they have for empowering communities through affordable homeownership, and they found that with us.”

Nationwide Homes deployed the latest technologies and building innovations throughout the development of the Five Points Neighborhood. Already built into the company’s modular process are increased efficiencies that reduce waste and provide quick turnaround times for builds.

“Nationwide Homes, a member of the Cavco family with 26 manufacturing plants located across the United States, is very proud to be a part of this very exciting and much-needed development here in our hometown of Martinsville, Virginia,” said Don Aheron, general manager at Nationwide Homes/Cavco Industries, Inc. “Nationwide Homes has been in business here in the city for over 60 years, and is committed to helping improve our community and the lives of our associates and neighbors. It is our goal that this project will help pave the way for future improvements and act as a template for other areas across America to do the same.”

The project is a partnership of Virginia Housing, City of Martinsville, USDA-Rural Development, Nationwide Homes, Silverpoint Homes, Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corp., United Way of Henry County & Martinsville, and The Harvest Foundation.
